New Logo Draws Inspiration from Revere Junior Patriots

As Revere Public Schools prepares for the future—including the opening of its new high school—the district has unveiled an official Patriot logo that will serve as the unified symbol of Revere athletics and school spirit.

The logo was formally introduced during July’s Revere School Committee meeting, capping nearly a year of collaboration among administrators, educators, students, and community members to create a single, recognizable identity for the district.

The effort began last fall when Revere High School physical education teacher Keith Correia approached Athletic Director Frank Shea and Superintendent Dr. Dianne Kelly with a simple but important idea: Revere needed one official Patriot logo.

At the time, multiple versions of the Patriot mascot were being used across uniforms, publications, and promotional materials, creating an inconsistent visual identity for the district.

"His reasoning was we had three or four images that were floating around that different groups would use," Shea explained during his presentation to the school committee. "He thought it was a good idea, going into a new high school, to have one solid logo that would be on uniforms and paper correspondence."

Dr. Kelly asked Shea to lead the project, assembling a committee representing athletics, academics, administration, the arts, and the broader community.

The committee included Shea; Michael Hinojosa, director of Parks and Recreation; Julianne Falzarano, Revere High School vice principal and former cheerleading coach; Jill Foley, director of health and wellness; Keith Correia, physical education teacher; Michael Flynn, teacher, cross-country coach, and tennis coach; Kepler Celamy, senior class president; Harley Dijon, AP Art and Design student; and Sovannita Va, art student and Art Club member.

Over the course of five meetings throughout the school year, the committee refined its vision for the next generation of Revere athletics.

As the vision began to take shape, committee members drew inspiration from the logo of the Revere Junior Patriots Youth Football and Cheer organization, which has been familiar to generations of young Revere athletes.

The Junior Patriots have long introduced some of Revere's youngest athletes to the city's football and cheer traditions, making their Patriot imagery a natural point of inspiration as RPS considered a new identity for its own athletic programs. Rather than simply adopting the existing image, however, students and committee members used elements of the Junior Patriots' Patriot as a starting point. They developed a new design specifically for Revere Public Schools.

Shea acknowledged that connection during the unveiling, noting that the new RPS logo "has some similarity to the Revere Junior Patriot logo" and that students took "a little bit of that image" before redesigning the Patriot's hat, face, and other features.
The result creates a visual connection between the youth programs where many Revere children are first introduced to athletics and the school teams they may one day represent, while giving RPS a distinct identity.

After establishing the overall direction during the first several meetings, committee members began translating those ideas into a finished design. Shea credited both Foley and student artist Sovannita Va for helping shape the final product through numerous revisions.

"When we had all the edits, Miss Va was tremendous with changing things, moving things around, giving us new images," Shea said. "She was a great help."
The finished logo pays homage to both Revere's athletic tradition and its youth sports community while giving the Patriot a more modern, distinctive appearance. The committee redesigned the character's face and iconic tricorn hat, building upon that familiar hometown imagery to create something unique to Revere Public Schools.

The logo also incorporates another tribute to hometown pride. The outline of the Patriot's face forms the shape of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, an element designed and inspired by the Junior Patriots’ logo, complete with a star marking Revere's location—a detail highlighted by Mayor Patrick Keefe during the unveiling.

"If you didn't notice, the logo features the outline of Massachusetts with a star indicating Revere's location inscribed on the Patriot's face," Keefe told those in attendance. "So, it's pretty cool. Very, very, very talented."

The design was displayed on screen for School Committee members and viewers watching from home, providing a closer look at the Massachusetts outline and other details incorporated into the new Patriot.

Beyond serving as the official athletic mark, the new logo represents a broader effort to strengthen the district's identity as Revere enters a new chapter with the construction of its new high school campus.

Shea said he hopes the logo quickly becomes a symbol students and alumni rally around.

"We're proud that this will be our logo moving forward," he said. "I can't wait to see it on some new uniforms."

Mayor Keefe echoed that excitement, adding that he already envisions the new Patriot coming to life at athletic events.

"I'm looking forward to seeing the physical mascot with the hat wearing the new uniform, running up and down the sidelines or in the field house," the mayor said.

The collaborative design process also reflects the district's commitment to including student voices in projects that shape the future of Revere Public Schools. By including student artists in the logo's design, the committee made sure the new Patriot was not simply made for students but was shaped by students themselves.

It also creates a fitting bridge between generations of Revere athletes—from children who first put on a uniform with the Junior Patriots Youth Football and Cheer organization to the student-athletes who proudly represent Revere Public Schools at the high school level.

Beginning with this school year, Revere athletics and school spirit will have a new official visual identity. The new Patriot logo will be featured on uniforms, athletic wear, publications, signage, and promotional materials throughout the district. As students, staff, and alumni look forward to a new era of Revere Public Schools, the redesigned Patriot will serve as an enduring emblem of unity, tradition, and hometown pride.
